Lore & Background

Gideon's true nature is revealed through his possession of Journal 2, which he obtained from Dipper. The book details secrets learned by an unknown author about Gravity Falls, hinting that bringing all three journals together opens a "gateway to unimaginable power." Gideon incorrectly assumes only two journals exist and believes the final one is hidden on the Shack's property. His obsession with acquiring Journal 3 leads him to deploy Old Man McGucket's giant robot, known as the Gideon-Bot, to chase the Pines family off their town bus. When cornered at a cliff edge, he attempts to claim Mabel as his queen while planning to rule the town, only to be defeated by Dipper during a physical altercation inside the falling robot.

In Their Own Story

After losing the Mystery Shack, Gideon discovers that the journal stolen from Dipper is actually Journal 3. Realizing Dipper likely holds Journal 1 and is fleeing town, he activates the Gideon-Bot to intercept the bus carrying the twins. At a dead end on an old railway bridge, Gideon corners Dipper and Mabel, grabbing Mabel and throwing Dipper aside. As Dipper jumps into the robot's cockpit to fight him, the machine loses balance and plummets off the cliff. Although Gideon blames the children for attempting murder, Stan Pines exposes Gideon's deception: his "psychic" abilities were actually surveillance feeds from cameras hidden in pins given at press conferences. The town turns on him, leading to his arrest by police for conspiracy, fraud, and breaking their hearts.

Reader's Guide

Gideon Gleeful operates as a manipulative force driven by greed and a desire for the supernatural power hinted at in the journals. His strategy involves public deception, using media appearances to solidify his hold on Gravity Falls while secretly using technology to monitor his enemies. He targets the Pines family specifically to recover Journal 1, believing it is necessary to unlock the gateway mentioned in his own journal. His downfall occurs when Stan reveals his fake psychic abilities to the public, resulting in Gideon's arrest for conspiracy and fraud. This event allows Stan to reclaim the Mystery Shack deed and secretly retrieve Journal 2, while Dipper and Mabel reveal they possess Journal 3.
